| I had this book as a text book in an upper division (university)communications class--it isnt light reading but it IS facinating and I have held on to it and refered to it many times. The selection of speeches is just right--a great combination of what you expect (Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, Liberty or Death, The Pastoral Letter, Gettysburg, The Solitude of Self, Cross of Gold, Wilson's War message, I Have a Dream, "Evil Empire" speech, up to Clinton's first Inaugural) and new and interesting ones. Reid introduces each speech with a brief introduction to the historical context and provides, on the whole, and entirely worth while text for any serious scholar (and probably for those who aren't as serious as well) |
