Nice little gem; good pack to "try it out."
| Once our kid outgrew the Infantino carrier, we had to find something to make walks easy and fun. This backpack fit the bill. Plus side: fairly compact and portable. Plenty of room for the kid, 6 mo to 1 year and counting. VERY COMFORTABLE. The chest straps are a bit tight, I suspect they were designed for a smaller frame person, but the waist belt and shoulder staps are heavily padded and distribute the load nicely. Note: unless you have a lot of experience in backpacking, don't just get a frame pack for your kid! Putting that much weight at that height means the pack has to fit you very very well. For example, I love this thing, but my wife doesn't fit it as well, and her back tires after about 30-40min. I can wear it all day, and have done so. Get an experienced camper, and take your kid to the store and try it out. Walk around with it on and shop for half an hour before buying. Our child falls asleep in it like magic, and we can shop or hike for several hours. Minus side: the little pouch on the back is a nice touch, but it's too small for more than a few diapers and a change of clothes. It'll do for a short trip, but serious hiking or long day trips will need refills in the car, or on your spouse. NOT big enough to hold diaper kit and your water, wallet, etc. Also, the "landing gear" that props it up sticks out a bit to the side when collapsed. It's VERY stable, even against raging infant angst, but the prop sticks out and you have to be careful around cars, corners, shopping racks, etc. Note: our kid finally outgrew this pack, so we've upgraded to the Evenflo Cross Terrain (see also Cross Country). As much as we liked this pack, the Evenflos are about an order of magnitude better designed: more pockets, padding, etc. New minus side: as our kid got older, they could stand on the lower cross bar, and bounce around. We feared an unauthorized "launch" out of the pack, so we had to upgrade. Larger kids can also ride with their feet on the bar, and hence their knees in your back. I still recommend this pack to make sure you and your kids enjoy it; less money spent up front. I even recommend getting the entry pack second-hand. Still, the next level of packs are unbelievably better. | |
Great Job Babies'R'Us! Change the COLOR please!
| I recently bought this backpack after trying out all the others in the store. It was not only the cheapest model, my son loves it! He sits higher up than the others so he can look around. I like the fact that the storage compartment and sunshade are detachable...this makes it a bit less heavy. In addition, the harness is fully adjustable and keeps my son safe and secure. For a kid who hates to be strapped in, I was surprised to find that he doesn't mind this carrier at all. He is a healthy 6 month old, 20 lbs. boy who needs lots of leg space! This carrier has it. The lightweight material is a good touch. The only negative I found was the color_ dark green. A more neutral lighter shade (tan or light grey)is more preferrable to deflect the hot sun...plus looks better. Finally, in regards to comfort, baby is fine & falls asleep every time he is in it. My shoulders hurt only the 1st two times I used it, then I was fine...even on long treks. For the money, this carrier is truly a great buy. | |
Great but no head support
| I registered for this carrier when my son was born and he is now 15 months. We finally were able to use it recently when we were walking through the park. He was fine until he fell asleep. There was no support for his head, and it flopped over to the front or the side. Other than that, it was light weight, and fit my husband well. But I'm a shorter, and it felt very heavy after 30 min. |
