| Got this machine for myself Christmas 2001 as a bundle for $560 after rebates at a store in Tucson. Admittedly I've upgraded it quite a bit, but you can't beat the efficiency for the price. I wanted a cheap machine with potential to upgrade, as I've found this is a cheaper method than buying a packed system. For downloading and light application processing the 1Ghz Celeron easily does the job. I've now added 256mb of ram, 60gb hard drive storage, an ethernet card, and a dvd player. All the upgrades cost me $319 with free shipping right here on Amazon.com. I got my new Linksys cable modem and router here too for less than $100 dollars a piece. The machine has responded beautifully to the upgrades and I have since made it the workhorse of my home network. Overall I give it 4 stars because any company that sells windows XP with 128mb ram doesn't deserve 5. Any serious user would tell you the same, but if you have some patience when browsing through folders and such you'll be fine with the 128. And the eMachines tech support is a joke, but with this computer you shouldn't have to contact them with any hardware issues. Well, you can't beat the capabilities for the listed price and you can't beat my machine for ... after upgrades ANYWHERE! |
