Things to consider before buying a toddler bed
| We bought this toddler bed for our son when he turned 2. It was easy to assemble, the quality was pretty good, and he took to it immediately. However, we have now lived with the bed for about 4 months and I have some comments to share with other parents - things I wish someone had told us before we bought a toddler bed. The reason we chose a toddler bed was to prolong the life of the crib mattress and avoid the expense of a twin bed for another year or two. However, after 4 months we are going to move our son to a twin bed anyway because of the limitations and challenges of the toddler bed. For example: 1. Sheet sets (fitted & flat sheet plus pillow case) for a toddler bed are virtually impossible to find. I have only been able to find sets that include comforters and they are expensive! We paid $50 for a pretty simple set. Consequently, we only have one complete sheet set. So if your child is like mine and frequently wakes up with a sopping wet diaper, get used to washing the sheets often because you may not have another set to fall back on. 2. Because of the side rails, the bed is VERY hard to make. We ended up taking one of the side rails off. 3. If you have fantasies of sitting on the bed and reading to your child, forget it. The bed will support only 40 or 50 pounds. Get used to sitting on the floor. 4. Our son sometimes wakes up in the night and wants to be held. My inclination is to want to get into his bed with him, but because the bed will not support an adult's weight, we either have to sleep on the couch with him or take him into our own bed. This is the number one limitation of this bed in my opinion. All these challenges add up to us buying a twin bed after all. So if the above considerations are important to you, I would seriously re-consider your decision to buy a toddler bed. You may be happier with a standard twin - I know we will be. On the other hand, if you just want to get your child into a "big" bed and you don't care about the other stuff, this is a great starter bed - the quality is good and you can get the bed in natural or white, which should match most kids' rooms. For these reasons, I gave the bed 4 stars. Good luck! | |
Great Bed, Great Price | |
| We purchased this bed for our 18-month old son as we have a baby on the way and wanted to transition him to a toddler bed. The bed was very easy to assemble, even for a woman! Our only complaint is that one of the guard rails has a pretty good ding in it, but that is the only noticeable defect. Overall, we are very happy with the purchase and feel it was a great buy for the price. And, the best part is that our son fell asleep in it the first night! | |
2 Year Old Twins Fall Out Several Times A Night!!
| We purchased these beds for our 2 year old toddlers because they were able to climb our of their cribs and we were concerned for their safety. Well, the side rails are way too short and both my twins fall out several times a night scaring the life out of them! They are now terrified to even go to sleep in them at all. Before purchasing these beds please consider whether your children move around alot while sleeping, like ours do, and remember it's VERY easy to fall out. |
