We wore our first one out and got another - works great! |
| This little pot is great for that one cup after dinner, when a whole pot is too much. To avoid the grounds floating up and into the reservoir make sure the filter is seated properly and that it is CLEAN! I wash mine after every use and don't have any problems with that. I've also used a standard paper filter with finely ground coffee, making sure that the edges are fanned open-you will get grounds in the res. if you don't - so then there's no sediment in the bottom of the cup when I'm done (from the really fine stuff)and the filter stays clean(er)- & you just toss the paper filter w grounds when done. I use a full scoop of coffee and add warmed milk to the finished brew when i want more of a Latte effect - it's great! |
On-Off switch |
| I have never had a problem with grounds floating into the water reservoir probably because I have always used coarser gound & decaf coffee. Plus, I barely use 1 measuring scoop of coffee (the scoop is from Gevalia brand and is smaller than normal scoops)and it is guite strong. No need for too much coffee. Using the travel mug to pour the water into the reservoir seems very easy (it doesn't drip or splash) and if you want the mug to be full then add a tad bit more water and it won't overflow because of the evaporation. My unit is defective in that the On-Off switch turns OFF after brewing but then turns itself back on again after a few minutes. I was going to return it but felt unplugging it after each use is probably safer anyway. So that's what I do and all is well with my cup of coffee. As someone else mentioned, the coffee brews HOT but because of the plastic mug it cools off VERY quickly. I would recommend this product to others but tell them the shortcomings first. |
Works for me |
| Personally, I haven't had any problems with the unit and enjoy its ease and convenience. Making sure to add the proper amount of coffee and keeping the permanent filter clean after each use, which is easily done, should prevent any problems with the grounds floating out of the filter into the water container. No measuring cup is necessary as using the coffee mug itself to fill the water chamber works just fine. Depending upon the hardness of ones water, following the occasional cleaning of the unit with white vinegar should keep steam to a minimum and the brewer in good shape for years to come. As for the difficulty in locating #1 paper-cone filters in lieu of the permanent mesh filter than comes with the unit, I too am unable to find any locally but noticed that they can be ordered on-line through Melitta.com for less than $2.00 for a package of 40. |
