| Low-tech, but does the trick! | |
| After reading many negative reviews on (complicated and {costly}) steam sterilizers and discovering that you don't need to sterilize everything contstantly anyway, I decided to go the old-fashioned boiling route. I received this item at my baby shower and have really grown to appreciate its usefulness. The slotted plastic "pail" fits easily into most large pans and there's plenty of room to sterilize multiple bottles and pacifiers at one time. I like it especially because we use Dr. Brown's bottles, which have extra pieces to keep track of- the pail keeps them all together. After boiling the items for 5 minutes and then letting the pot cool, I slowly pick up the pail by the handles and all the excess water drains into the pan. Then I use the tongs to take out the items and put them into my bottle drying rack. The tongs are also useful for when you want to re-position items while they boil- no nasty steam burns! I found an alternate use for this pail, too. When diswashing my baby's teething toys and the like, I just put them in the pail and submerge it in the dishwater. After washing, I pull out the pail, rinse its contents and set the whole thing on a towel to dry. It's just an easy way to keep baby's dishwashed toys organized and separate from the other dishes. |
