| This is a great bookcase, I don't know what the person was talking about the size being misadvertised. I think they just didn't understand that it's 15 inches deep, not wide. anyway, I found the proportions to be what they said they were. I would definately advise to tighten the screws that are already in place to make sure it doesn't wobble. I put mine together and it was less than sturdy. I spent 3 minutes tightening the factory screws and it didn't move at all. Not to mention this is a beautiful piece of furniture, the wood isn't all crappy and peeling, it's real and the color is beautfully warm and nuetral. I highly recommend. Assembly is easy, it took like 20 mins. |
| I agree with other reviewers that this bookshelf is great looking - warm color, nice lines, and good size for smaller spaces. However, I also agree with the reviewers who complain about the assembly. I thought that the instructions were simple and clear, but the parts - the cam screws and their pre-drilled holes - were HORRIBLE. It seems that some items might be pre-assembled/pre-drilled better than others, which might explain the conflicting reviews. I know I was surprised, given the general positive nature of the reviews.
I have two other matching pieces in this Mission collection - the desk and the file drawer - and those went together very easily and solidly, and the desk came with extra hardware (just in case you strip the cheap screws, maybe?!).
I've put together lots of this sort of furniture over the years, and I consider myself pretty good at it. (I mean, how hard can it be to do, really?) On this piece, the pre-drilled holes were too small (not just small enough for a solid fit, but really too small) and not deep enough, and the screws were too cheaply made to screw into the wood beyond the pre-drilled area. (The pre-drilled holes were noticably larger on the desk, which I assembled the same day with the same size screws.) I stripped two screws (no extras included, mind you) before I gave up on trying to get them in far enough. It ultimately fit together - sort of - but remains quite wobbly and unstable because the pieces don't all fit together.
I suppose the reviewer who commented about "getting what you pay for" is right; this isn't an expensive piece of furniture, but I felt like the "time is money" and frustration factors made it not worth it. But you might get one that's alright (like my desk was)... |
