Not quite there | |
| "Give Up" had a lot of potential from the start, but fell flat after a few tracks. A couple of songs stand out ("Such Great Heights" and "We Will Become Silhouettes") and are really great tracks, but the rest of the album could easily be mistaken for some guy sitting around a studio messing with the Super Mario Brothers soundtrack.
Ben Gibbard, the lead singer, has a very weak, faint voice that sometimes makes you want to cringe, especially when it's in a somber setting, but all that changes when he gets a solid beat and catchy rhythm moving. Unfortunately most of the tracks didn't provide the jolt he needed, so it's tough to get through the whole album without losing focus.
Upbeat Yet Realistic Perfection
| The Postal Service snuck up on me out of nowhere and infected my brain. The more I listen to this CD, especially when I can really listen and become absorbed, through whatever means, the more I wish I could throw my filthy money at these guys. I want more!
The lyrics are unexpected and original, painting a very clear and emotionally tangible experience, surrounded by (usually) upbeat and interesting (not played out) electronics. I detect hints of IDM influences, as well as 80's new wave (the few good parts!), with a perspective and sincerity that is refreshing in todays predictable mainstream music scene. I wish I could promise you will love this CD, but...I dont know you. My advice, buy it and listen to it when you can actually listen, and with a good sound system or earphones. A+! When's the next album coming?!
Postal Service=AMAZING.
| Is there anything one can possibly say to justify such an amazing CD? This CD is just utterly perfect in every facet of its being. The songs are brilliant and poetic. The music is electric and eclectic. The songs will get stuck in your head time and time again. It's gorgeous in every way. If you don't own this CD, I don't know how you possibly consider yourself complete! |
