Best way to learn about Electricity without *wires* !
| Outstanding game which *grows* with your child -- as you can upgrade the kit. Projects range from simple to complex. Snapping connections is easy for the kids. Just as an example, my child quickly picked up the concepts of "switches" once he assembly the first few projects. Also helps in troubleshooting -- what is the diff bet. a open and closed circuit ?
Only "con" -- wish there was more details about the project and how does it work. Many project are variations of a "base" project. Say -- substitute bulb with the Motor. As an enhancement it will be very cool to have small LEDs on the connections showing the flow of electricity !! Overall a must have science kit for children ! You won't waste your money on this one !
Get It - Your children and you will love it!
| I found this item to be EXACTLY what my soon to be 6 yr old son (March '05) needed. My wife and I gave it to our son for Christmas this year and he cannot put it down. The illustrations for assembly are accurate, the projects all work like they are supposed to and it allows him to customize some of these experiments to suit his needs. In addition, he can use these components to build his own creations without the use of the included instruction books.
Granted, our son has been fasinated with wires, electric and electronic stuff since he was very young, so these sets provide the outlet, instructions and materials to help him develope his understanding better. The box suggests 8 yrs old, but children around 6 yrs old can safetly put these together with minimal help from the parents. [...] As a added bonus, parts are available at a VERY REASONABLE cost, should the need arise, directly from the manufacturer. It appears to me that the company is genuinely interested in promoting the understanding of electronic circuity rather that generating excessive profits on junk "educational/learning" toys. Would I recommend this toy to other parents whose children seem a little bit interested in electronics - YES! If your child doesn't grab ahold and grasp this set at first - WAIT, they will! The fascination with building electric circuits will be soon and the toy will then be picked up and used. Buy it - if not for you, then for your children - they'll love the voice recorder, alarms, bells, whistles, motor, LED's, AM/FM radio, etc., etc., etc.!
Ideal toy for an 8 year old boy
| My 8 year old son really enjoys this toy, which was on his Christmas list this year. He takes great pride in assembling the various parts and feels an enormous sense of accomplishment when he successfully completes a project. Snap circuit is ideal in the sense that it facilitates parental involvement in unobtrusive educational instruction. This toy is definitely a start in the right direction for kids who are technically inclined; have the capacity and ability to troubleshoot and analyze schematics.
