| I am half Norwegian, and have been eating gjetost my whole life- it's really fabulous. I've never seen any cheese similar to this one. It is somewhat of an acquired taste, but I have served it to my adult friends in the US, and they've loved it at first bite. In Norway, we serve it straight from the fridge, and using your cheese plane, serve the slices on hearty whole-grain bread, fresh thin heart-shaped waffles (vafler), or those Wasa crispbread crackers you see at the grocery store. I won't lie to you- the gjetost they sell in Norway is a slightly different blend, and has a richer flavor- but Ski Queen is still very good. Also, you can buy smaller hunks of this at the cheese desk of many local grocery stores. Try it- you'll like it! |
