Good companion to the movies...
| I did not watch Clone Wars on TV - I could never quite figure out when they were on, and they were shown in annoyingly short increments. Viewed on DVD all at once however, they are a worthy addition to the Star Wars Saga - with plenty of action, light saber fights, and first-class animation.
I felt the need to watch Clone Wars after seeing Revenge of the Sith. Since Episode III begins in the midst of things, I felt that there was a significant amount of back-story that I needed to catch up on. In Clone Wars, we first meet General Grievous - one of the chief villains of Episode III. His light saber battle with the Jedi makes the DVD worthwhile by itself. I'm looking forward to Volume 2.
Pretty cool, not worth buying.
| Let me start off by saying that I am probably the only person in the world who owns this DVD who has not seen Episode III yet (Sat. May 21), so maybe that will explain my persepctive.
My young son and I enjoyed the cartoons, but I don't think they are worth buying. The cartoons are loosely connected, but there is little or no plot or character development. In fact, there is very little dialogue. I don't see myself watching this too many more times; there just isn't a lot of repeat viewing in these. For that reason, I can't recommend buying them. The special features were interesting with good interviews of the creators, but I don't think anything about the DVD really warrants purchasing it.
What the Prequels should have been!
| I have to admit that after viewing all 25 of these beautifully done cartoons I am now very spoiled. Everything that we had hoped for in the prequels and more was delivered skillfully in these cartoons. The development of the characters and the growing relationship of Obiwan and Anakin were well presented. And the revelation of the incredible power of the force (dark and light side) finally let us know what a master like Yoda, or Mace or Dooku could do!
The battle of Anakin with the Sith Witch is titanic especially when Anakin taps his anger and uses the dark side in the final confrontation. Then there is General Grevious, a totally frightening cyborg who with his four machine arms deals light sabre death to any jedi that dares to challenge him. After viewing all 25 cartoons and then seeing Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith I must admit extreme dissapointment. These cartoons set the bar too high. Grevious is incredible in the cartoons and has a great machine voice that is really creepy. Grevious in the movie sucks. A weak, oddly accented, loser, coward. Lucas must really feel bad knowing that everyone who tries can do Star Wars better than he. Why can't he just turn the thing over to the truly creative people and sit back like the rest of us and enjoy the show? Put that ego away George and let the show go on. |
