I just can't stop playing it |
| It's kind of like having a good friend over for a visit, and you're really sorry when they have to leave - I just have to hear it again. John's wit, wisdom and humor really hit home. All I can say is thank you! |
On My Feet Applauding |
| John Prine has made yet another wonderful record. Beyond that, there's no need for me to say much else except that I've seen him only once. Went with a girlfriend of mine - of sorts. She's crazy about him so it was shaping up to be a fine night. We had great seats and a backstage pass. By the time we got to the gig, though, my friend was too drunk - and sick - to go backstage and so to do the right thing I left with her and never did met him. But, during the show, when he solo-played Angel From Montgomery, I stood - alone - and gave him a standing ovation. It was quite a moment for me to see him play that incredible song. I will stand and give him another standing ovation now for Fair & Square. John Prine's done it again. |
Quintessential John Prine - wonderful!!! |
| I've always been a John Prine fan so I must admit a strong bias toward his music, but even so I was literally STUNNED by how wonderful and beautiful and simple and rootsy and true this album is. It is just amazing that after more than 30 years of doing this sort of thing, he is still at his peak. And his voice has never sounded better -- it's richer and warmer than usual. Some of the songs here haunted me from the moment I heard them. With all these "Americana" acts out there trying so hard, he still does it better than any of 'em. Absolutely a five-star album. |
