I just about fainted when i leafed through my timeout new york and saw that they were finally releasing pete and pete on dvd. Many fans have been waiting for this for years as we watch our aging tapes of the show and sign online petitions. buy it now, and don't worry about a few little picture quality things. I think we all know that isn't the point. Here's hoping paramount/nickelodeon releases the rest, and then all...will be pipe!!!!

After all these years, I am beside myself with joy to finally have this DVD out officialy. The Adventures of Pete and Pete is in my opinion one of the greatest television shows of the 1990's, if not ever. The programming is wonderful. There are only a few problems with the dvd and I'm sure there's a good explanation for them:

1. Technical defects: The Day Of The Dot episode has a part of it where there are lines and blurs out the wazoo

2. The Polaris station has a weird stereo mix that differs from the album on the non musical intro (but its not really a problem)

3. About polaris doesn't give much information

4. Only 2 shorts

5. Only 4 specials (I don't know how many there were though)

Overall this is a great dvd that all old nick fans should get today!

The "Adventures of Pete and Pete" is a surreal and twisted, yet (paradoxically) strangely realistic portrayal of what it was like to grow up in the early to mid 90s. When I watch this show, I can't help but feel nostalgic for the time when it was okay for kids to ride bikes around their neighborhoods unsupervised, when it was okay to go "exploring" in the woods for fun, and when it was okay to skate across a frozen pond in one's sneakers. I am now 22, and I cannot imagine allowing any child the freedoms that I had taken for granted 12 years ago. It might be age catching up with me, but I can't help but feel that I truly did grow up in a better, safer, more innocent time.

The show itself centers around two red-haired brothers, both named Pete. The older, more sedate Big Pete serves as the narrator, while the precocious and adorable Little Pete finds him self continually rebelling and battling against something or another in every episode. Characters like Artie (the strongest man in the world), Mom, Dad, Ellen, Bill Korn, Teddy, Endless Mike, Open Face, and even Edna the Fighting Squid make this show unforgettable and, well, singular. There's nothing like it. This show never stoops to talking down to children, yet teaches young people (or even older ones) a little about life in an honest and pure way, devoid of any sarcasm or lies.

I can't recommend this show for just anyone. For people who like movies like "Donnie Darko," or "Being John Malkovich," this show definitely is along the same vein. For people who enjoy early 90s alternative and grunge rock (for example, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, early Green Day, or even The Gin Blossoms), Polaris is a wonderful band, and the soundtrack to this show is awesome.
