| Let's see. The cover is supposed to evoke "American Beauty". Early press releases from Lost Highway urge us to believe it's influenced by "Workingman's Dead". The sound is pure "Europe '72"-wannabe rehash, and not in a good way. I mean, for God's sake, there are DANCING BEARS in the advertisments for it in magazines!!
It's a wonder anyone cares about this self-proclaimed "genius" anymore after all the embarassingly bad music and laughable self-imaging he tries to do. Get a life, Ryan, and get a grip, fans: he's gone, he's gooooone, and nothin's gonna bring him back. | |

| Adams thanks you've created the most poetic album ever. Incredible. Love is hell is a close second but doesn't show the whole picture. If you want to captivate Adams on a double disc then this is it. Although i skip the rock and roll songs its because i love his acoustic sets. He found his niche into the Damien rice scene and taken it over. Innovation is what he is about but should stick with his Love is hell sound. Cold Roses is amazing and should be experienced by the world. Enjoy. | |

| Normally I will go into a lot of detail when reviewing a cd here, but presently I am tongue-tied; there just aren't words good enough to express how truly amazing this double disc set is. I have been a fan of Ryan's for a few years now, and I have to say that "Cold Roses" literally blew me away from the very first listen. There is much diversity to be had in the songcraft and musicianship; Mr. Adams and the Cardinals are in top form, and each song shines with it's own brilliance. While I love the entire album two songs in particular really stand out for me: "How Do You Keep Love Alive", which is heartbreakingly beautiful, and "Blossom", a bittersweet gem....both songs made me want to cry, the emotions they stirred in me were that powerful (and I can say in all honesty that I don't run across too many tunes that affect me on such a level). This is without a doubt one of the best albums I have heard thus far this year, and Ryan and his bands' best, period (again, in my humble opinion). It will be interesting to hear the next 2 releases he has planned for this year, after creating this masterpiece. Do yourself a favor, don't miss this incredible album!! |
