I give this dvd five stars because Lucinda's music is awesome. I got it because I had never seen her perform before, she doesn't come over to play here in Ireland, at least I never seen her here. It is a bog standard live concert with absolutely no frills, I was a bit disappointed there was nothing extra, no interview or back chat with her, so maybe its only worth four stars but the music is great so I give it five.
I just luv that upbeat version of Lake Charles, and yes this dvd looks a far far better buy that that double cd which looks sort of weak.
She is playing across the water in England in July, so who knows if she goes there maybe she could make it across to Ireland sometime. I'll give her a place to stay!

User rating: 5Pure Genius!
"The female Bob Dylan". "A Modern Day Hank Williams". Like me, you've probably heard and read the comparisons before.

But, while the honor of being mentioned in the same breath as these musical geniuses cannot be denied, I truly believe Lucinda is all this and more. Lucinda is Lucinda. She stands alone in my mind. An amazing songwriter, performer, singer and musician. A women who literally brings tears to my eyes every time I hear her sing the chorus of "Lake Charles" (for Clyde). A songwriter whose lyrics are so evocative of the Deep South, that she can paint a picture of a thousand brush strokes with simple phrases like "June bug versus hurricane" or "There goes the screen door slamming shut" and "Set of keys and a dusty suitcase". Misty memories of hot summer days in the South from my childhood flash before my mind's eye each time I hear Lucinda sing. The achingly beautiful timbre of her voice with the "been there, done that" edge of painful experience that I love & admire so much.

This DVD captures all this in Lucinda's music & live performances and more. Filmed during her third appearance on "Austin City Limits" in 1998, on the heals of the release of her amazing album "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road", this is Lucinda at her brilliant best. Being prior to the release of her subsequent albums "Essence" and "World Without Tears", this performance has more of her "crooners" (as my good friend John calls them) than some of the more rockin' songs from these latter two albums (I love them all, however, so I am always pleased). One notable exception here (not the only one) is the next to the last track, "Joy" which has the crowd on their feet hootin' & hollerin' during some amazing guitar work from Kenny Vaughn and John Jackson.

Speaking of the band, they are tight, they are talented, they are incredible. And technically speaking, the video is crisp, the transitions smooth, the close-ups of the guitar work timely & plentiful (what you would expect from an "Austin City Limits" production). Finally, the DTS mix is outstanding. I was in awe during my entire first viewing, and left wanting for more (MUCH more) at the end.

In short, an absolute must-have for any Lucinda Williams fan. Run, don't walk, to your nearest store to buy this DVD. You won't regret it.

Oh yeah, while you're there, pick up her new live album, "Live @ the Fillmore". More durn good stuff...
User rating: 5Now, THIS is the live Lucinda I remember
This is MUCH MUCH better than the new live CD. Better band by far and Williams is entirely locked in vocally. And what material! Hire 'em back, Lu!!

I saw this band in Lawrence, KS a month before this was recorded -- exactly what I remember!
